Sunday Sit-down with MLB.com’s Royals beat writer Annie Rogers

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

ABC 17 Sports Director Nathalie Jones brought on the Royals beat writer for MLB.com, Annie Rogers, in this week's edition of Sunday Sit-down.

The two broke down the first three games of the season for Kansas City, as the Royals took a sweep from the Minnesota Twins at Kauffman Stadium to open up the year. Rogers said that first-year manager Matt Quatraro is not hitting the panic button yet.

"He's not concerned yet. He has a very relaxed presence, really calming demeanor out there on the field, in the dugout, with media. It's hard not to kind of feed off of that. The players really enjoy his presence. They like his communication style. He wants that clubhouse to be player first, which I think a lot of them really embrace," she said. "It's a long season. They're gonna have ups and downs."

Rogers added that the team's biggest goal heading into the next series against Toronto will need to be getting the stars involved.

"As Bobby Witt Jr. and MJ Melendez go, the team goes and Salvador Perez as well," she said. Those top four guys, when they're productive, the lineup is going to be more productive. The second thing I think, is hitting with runners in scoring position, when they have when they have guys on base. You got to take advantage of it. They are 1-for-20 to start the season and that's not where you want to be."
