Mizzou softball shut out in series opener vs. Alabama

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou softball team struggled to get the bats going in Friday's series opener against Alabama putting together just two hits in the 4-0 loss.

The Tigers only two hits came in the second with a single from Chantice Phillips and in the seventh on a single from Kara Daly.

Jordan Weber got into some trouble on the mound allowing the bases to get loaded after a walk and a mishandled bunt. With the bases juiced, Alabama's Larissa Preuitt crushed a grand slam over the right field wall to put the Crimson Tide in front 4-0.

Weber pitched just over five innings on the mound giving up four runs on six hits. Megan Schumacher came in for relief in the sixth inning allowing just one hit and recording the Tigers only strikeout of the day.

On the mound for Alabama, Montana Fouts pitched a complete game allowing no runs, two hits and recording 12 strikeouts.

The two continue the three-game series Saturday at the Mizzou Softball Stadium at 5 p.m.
