Mizzou hoops forward enters the transfer portal

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Mizzou spokesperson confirmed that Tiger hoops forward Mohamed Diarra has entered the transfer portal after one season in Columbia.

The 6-foot-10 junior was not a part of the starting lineup at the beginning of head coach Dennis Gates' first year in Columbia, however, he earned more minutes when the SEC schedule began. Diarra started his first game on Feb. 21 against Mississippi State.

The junior appeared in 25 games for MU and showed progress as the season went on. He tallied a season high 11 points against Ole Miss in January and grabbed a season high 12 boards against Alabama in January, as well. He averaged about three points and three rebounds per game through the season. He also tied for second on the team in blocked shots, with 15 on the season.

Diarra was on of the top-rated JuCo products in 2022, coming out of Garden City Community College. The France-native committed to head coach Dennis Gates just days after Gates arrived in Columbia.

Gates commented on the news on social media on Tuesday. He said, "I just want to say thank you to Mohamed Diarra for his contributions to our program and institution under my leadership! Once a Mizzou Tiger, always a Mizzou Tiger! We love you and I am here if you need me! May the portal be with you!"

Diarra is the first departure of the offseason for Gates.
