Mizzou focused on ‘attacking good pitches’ ahead of another SEC series

COLUMBA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou softball team will look to get back in the win column with a midweek match up against Drake, on Wednesday, and then a weekend series at No. 21 Auburn.

The Tigers are coming off of a 2-1 series loss to No. 11 Florida over the weekend. Although it wasn't the result the group wanted, MU kept it close with one of the top teams in the country, losing by just one run each time.

"I loved the energy that we had this weekend," head coach Larissa Anderson said. "The outcome wasn't exactly how we would want it, a heartbreaking loss yesterday, but overall I was just really happy with the progress that we made."

Anderson said her team played a lot more relaxed in Gainesville, in comparison to their first SEC series against Kentucky. She said her group played uptight against the Wildcats, but had more fun against Florida.

"Our aggressiveness, I mean that was the biggest takeaway after Kentucky. I thought that we chased a lot of balls that were out of the zone. We were guessing a lot and we went into the Florida series just trying to be aggressive and trying to attack the first good pitch that we see and we did. We did not take a lot of strikes."

Anderson said Auburn will be a tough series, but the midweek match up against Drake is a good opportunity to get a team to play their game. She said often times when you play in a conference game you're more careful. In the SEC there aren't quite as many opportunities, so players don't want to make any mistakes. However, a non-conference match up allows Mizzou to have a bit more freedom and elevate their game.

First pitch between Mizzou and Drake is at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Mizzou Softball Stadium.
