Mizzou baseball lands in top-25 after sweeping Tennessee

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou baseball team landed at No. 22 in D1baseball's latest rankings, following a sweep over then-No. 2 Tennessee over the weekend.

It was the first SEC series sweep for MU in four years. The Volunteers dropped down to No. 12 in the nation after the loss.

The Tigers dominated the Vols from start to finish in the three game series. Head coach Steve Bieser's group won by at least three runs in each game, thanks to an explosive weekend at the plate. However, the pitchers were lethal, as well. Tennessee struck out 32 times, scoring just six runs on nine hits through three games.

Up next - No. 22 Mizzou will have a midweek contest against rival Kansas on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Kauffman Stadium. After that game, MU will head to Columbia, S.C. to meet the No. 11 South Carolina Gamecocks for a weekend series.
