Sunday Sit-down with PowerMizzou’s Jarod Hamilton

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

ABC 17 Sports Director Nathalie Jones brought on the PowerMizzou's Jarod Hamilton in this week's edition of Sunday Sit-down.

The two broke down the action from Mizzou football's annual spring game, which was played on Saturday afternoon at Devine Pavilion. Overall, the defense stole the show, after making big leaps during the 2022 season. Hamilton said there's one position that will determine who much more growth that groups makes in 2023.

"There's a couple of things that go into that maybe like the defensive end spots. If they can find a way to plug those holes and get some constant pass rush from those ends, then definitely," he said. "Year two on the scheme, Blake Baker wants to scheme up some more different stuff, some unique blitzes and all that other stuff. He kept saying how he kept it simple last year because it was year one, but going into year two they can do a lot of things, if they can figure out the edge spot."

The offense got off to a quick start in Saturday's scrimmage, scoring a couple touchdowns, but the defense took over after about the first 25 minutes.

Three quarterbacks took the field on Saturday: freshman Sam Horn, Miami transfer Jake Garcia and Hutchinson Community College transfer Dylan Laible. Hamilton said between those three, Laible actually stood out the most.

"I mean, he throws a nice spiral and Eli Drinkwitz said he's adjusted to the game well," he said. "He's got this scheme down. He's making the correct correct reads and he was the first quarterback to lead a touchdown drive yesterday."

The offensive line is an area that Drinkwitz said will need a lot of work before the season kicks off in Sept. Hamilton also noted that the area will be an important fix for Coach Drink ahead of the season.
