Mizzou baseball upsets No. 2 Tennessee in SEC opener

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou baseball team throttled No. 2 Tennessee in Friday's SEC opener, 9-1, to give MU the 1-0 lead in the three-game, weekend series.

The bats heated up quickly for the Tigers. Dalton Bargo, Helias alum Trevor Austin and Hank Zeisler all brought in runners in a four-run first inning. Both Bargo and Dylan Leach led the team with two RBI apiece.

On the mound, Chandler Murphy earned a win to improve to 3-1 this season. He racked up five strikeouts and allowed just one run on three hits through six innings.

Rorick Maltrud earned his first save of the season through three innings of work. He ended with five strikeouts, as well.

Up next - Mizzou will continue the series against the Volunteers on Saturday 2 p.m.
