Mizzou baseball captures series win against NJIT

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

An eighth inning rally lifted the Mizzou baseball team to a 5-3 win over NJIT on Sunday night. The victory also gave the Tigers the overall series win against the Highlanders.

It is MU's fourth comeback win of the season, capped by a banner weekend for the Tiger pitching staff. The group limited NJIT tot a .159 team batting average, while striking out 32 hitters and allowing just 13 hits in three games.

Pitcher Rorick Maltrud notched a new career-high with seven strikeouts in his four inning outing. However, it was Zach Franklin who earned the win on the bump for MU. It's the third win of his Tiger career and his 19th in college, after striking out six of the eight batters he faced in the final two innings.

With the win, the Tigers improved to 7-1 at home in the 2023 season.

Up next - the home stand continues for Mizzou, as the team will host Lamar on Wednesday, March 15 at 3 p.m.
