No. 23 Mizzou softball drops SEC opener to No. 16 Kentucky

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The No. 23 Mizzou softball team lost the first game in the series to No. 16 Kentucky, 5-0, on Friday night at the Mizzou Softball Stadium.

The Wildcats held MU to just two hits in the game, as pitcher Stephanie Schoonover threw a complete-game shutout in the UK win. She improved to 9-1 this season in the 15-strikeout outing.

Payton Jackson notched the first hit of the game for MU with a single in the fifth inning. Alex Honnold also added on MU's second hit of the day in the following frame.

Laurin Krings tossed a complete game for the Tigers. She tallied five strikeouts and allowed five runs on 10 hits.

Up next - the series against No. 16 Kentucky will continue on Saturday. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
