Mizzou softball goes 5-0 to capture invitational championship in Miami

MIAMI, Fla. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou softball team captured the Panther Invitational Championship with a 6-4 win over Pittsburgh on Sunday morning. With the win, the Tigers went 5-0 through three days of action.

Head coach Larissa Anderson and company downed Butler, Pittsburgh and Florida International University on the three-day road trip. The weekend put MU at 9-2 overall to start the 2023 season.

Laurin Krings pitched a complete game for Mizzou. She tossed three strikeouts, allowing four earned runs over six innings. The pitcher is now 3-0 to start her junior season.

Alex Honnold knocked out her third home run of the season in Sunday's win. Jenna Laird was the only other batter to notch an RBI, but Kara Daly and Julia Crenshaw both capitalized on some Pittsburgh errors to put MU on top.

Up next - Mizzou will hit the road, once again, to visit Palm Springs, Calif. for the Mary Nutter Cathedral City Collegiate Classic from Thursday, Feb. 23 to Saturday, Feb. 25.
