No. 23 Mizzou softball starts season 3-2 after NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic

CLEARWATER, Fl. (KMIZ)

The No. 23 ranked Mizzou softball team finished the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Florida 3-2 to start the season.

The Tigers begun the tournament on Friday with an 11-1 loss to No. 6 Texas, followed by a 13-3 win later in the day against Fordham.

On Saturday, Mizzou showed what they were capable off knocking off No. 8 Northwestern, 6-1. Sunday was the final day of the classic and MU was able to split its two games beating Prairie View A&M, 11-0 and falling to Louisville, 4-0.

The Tigers bats were being led by Jenna Laird as she walks away from the first five games batting .500 with nine hits and two RBI's. Alex Honnold had a team-high six RBI's in the opener, plus Honnold and Crenshaw both hit homeruns in Clearwater.

On the mound, the freshman Cierra Harrison made a name for herself allowing zero runs and two hits in eight innings pitched.

Up next - The Tigers will take on No. 18 UCF in Orlando on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
