Mizzou shortstop named to Preseason All-SEC Team

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou shortstop Jenna Laird received another preseason honor on Thursday. The junior was named to the 2023 Preseason All-SEC Softball Team for the second straight year.

Laird led the Tigers in 2022 batting .338 with 11 doubles, three triples, 44 runs scored and 22 stolen bases. She had 20 multi-hit games in sophomore campaign, nine of which included extra-base hits.

The New York native also led MU in the Championship Final of the SEC Tournament, batting. 500 over the course of four games. She was also put on the 2022 All-SEC Second Team after posting a .291/.519/.341 hitting line in conference play.

The offseason has included quite a preseason lists for Laird. She was named to the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List, D1Softball's Preseason D100 Players, Extra Inning Softball's Extra Elite 100 College Player Rankings, and Softball America's 2023 Preseason Top 100.

The No. 23 Tigers will travel to Clearwater, Florida, to kick off their 2023 season at the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic from Feb. 10-12.
