Sunday Sit-down with Rock M Nation’s Parker Gillam
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
ABC 17's Chanel Porter brought on Rock M Nation's Mizzou hoops beat writer Parker Gillam in this week's edition of Sunday Sit-down.
The two talked about the Mizzou men's basketball team's dominate performance Saturday taking down No. 12 Iowa State. Gillam said the Tigers found their rhythm at Ole Miss and kept it rolling against a tough Cyclone defense.
"Everything clicked against Iowa State," Gillam said. "Coming into the game, everything was made of Iowa State's defense, one of the top in the country and how was Mizzou gonna be able to handle that? They made that Iowa State defense look mediocre in the SEC."
As the season goes on, Mizzou continues to get more guys into the rotations. Recently, Mohamed Diarra has been a presence in the paint and Kaleb Brown as earned his way into some minutes on the court.
"You can point out maybe six, seven guys that you could say 'Oh, he could get me 15 points tonight," Gillam said. "When you're scouting for this team, yeah, Kobe Brown's at the top of that, but that's a lot for opposing defenses to try to prepare for especially when they're all making their shots."
Isiaih Mosley was out for about a month due to personal reasons, but since coming back has been a big part of the Mizzou offense, even making his way into the starting five.
"He's a playmaker that can find his own shot when the offense is struggling. He's a give you give the ball to and let him go and the team missed that," Gillam said.
Gillam also writes on the Mizzou women's basketball team for the Missourian and had some thoughts after the Tigers suffered their sixth straight loss Sunday at Kentucky.
"They're sitting close to the bubble right now and looking nearly similar tohow last year did at this point," Gillam said. "They're gonna have to really turn it around down the stretch. They have a lot of winnable games coming up, so hopefully they should build that resume back up."
