Mizzou women’s hoops looks to get back on track against tough opponent
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Mizzou women's basketball team is coming off of a tough loss against Arkansas and are looking to get back in the win column Thursday against No. 5 LSU.
Head coach Robin Pingeton commented on team shooting just 29% from the field, but she said that wasn't the worst part.
"The frustrating thing for me is and for all of us is we were able to sustain our defensive intensity early on, but as the game went on and the shots weren't falling, we gave up some unearned points," Pingeton said.
With the next opponent in mind, Pingeton said she doesn't expect scoring to get any easier.
"At the end of the day, scoring in the SEC is really hard," Pingeton said. "It's not a free-flowing league. It's a very physical, athletic league that muddies it up, that's a grind night in and night out and you've got to find a way to be able to maintain that defensive intensity no matter what happens on the offensive end."
This was the Tigers first conference loss as they've started SEC play 3-1, which is the best since 2018-19.
As Mizzou gets set to host the fifth-ranked team in the nation in unbeaten LSU, Pingeton know it's going to be a challenge, but her biggest concern is her team controlling what they can control.
"We know we're going to have our hands full and we're going to have to come in locked in. Rebounding is going to be a big point of emphasis for us," Pingeton said. "Basically we have to control what we can control and that's our grittiness, that's our toughness and that's our resiliency and we've got to play harder than what we played against Arkansas."
Tip-off against LSU will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at Mizzou Arena.
