Chiefs clinch first seed with divisional win in Vegas
LAS VEGAS, Nv. (KMIZ)
The Kansas City Chiefs have claimed the first seed in the AFC playoffs with a 31-13 win Saturday against the Las Vegas Raiders.
This marks the third time in five seasons KC has been the #1 seed.
Patrick Mahomes finished the day with 202 yards and a touchdown. During the game, Mahomes has the most offensive yards in a single season in NFL history. He finished the year with 5,250 yards passing and 41 touchdowns.
Isiah Pacheco led things on the ground with eight carries for 64 yards and a score. Justin Watson was the leading receiver with one catch for 67 yards.
The defense was a dominate force in the matchup recording six total sacks. Chris Jones had a team-high 2.5 sacks and Mike Danna added two.
During the game, ormer Mizzou Tigers Nick Bolton set a new single-season franchise record with 180 total tackles, besting Derrick Johnson's previous mark of 179 tackles set in the 2011 season.
Per an agreement by NFL clubs during a Special League Meeting, if Buffalo beats New England on Sunday and goes on to meet the Chiefs in the AFC title game, the contest would be played at a neutral site.
The Chiefs get a first-round bye and will host the lowest remaining AFC seed when they open the playoffs in the Divisional Round (Jan. 21-22).
