Career night from Kobe Brown leads Mizzou to big Braggin’ Rights victory over No. 16 Illinois

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou men's basketball team got off to a hot start against No. 16 Illinois in the annual Braggin' Rights matchup and didn't let the lead slip away closing it out big 93-71.

The Tigers went on a 6-0 run to start things off at the Enterprise Center and followed it up with a big 15-0 run to go into the locker room in front 51-27.

Mizzou's first half defense from beyond the arch was shut down allowing the Illini to hit just one of 15 first half threes.

Kobe Brown was a force to be reckoned with for MU with the highest scoring game of his career 31 points. He also was an all-around presence with eighth assists, five rebounds and four steals.

D'Moi Hodge added 20 points and four steals while DeAndre Gholston had 15 points.

The Mizzou defense forced 17 turnovers. Illinois finished the day shooting just 22.6% from the three-point line and just over 40% from the field. Terrance Shannon Jr. led the team with 22 points.

With the win, Mizzou enters conference play with an 11-1 record. The Tigers will take on Kentucky at home Wednesday at 6 p.m.
