Brian Smith gets contract extension with Mizzou wrestling
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Director of Athletics Desireé Reed-Francois announced Monday that Mizzou has extended the contract of Wrestling Head Coach Brian Smith through the 2026-27 season.
Since coming to Mizzou in 1998, Smith has coached 29 All-Americans to 60 top-eight performances and six Tigers to nine National Championships.
Mizzou has finished with a dual-meet record at or above .500 for 21 consecutive years, dating back to the 2001-02 season.
As the winningest coach in program history by both wins (319) and winning percentage (.737), Smith became the first 300-win coach in program history in 2021. He earned six consecutive conference Coach of the Year honors from 2012-17, including five straight by the Mid-American Conference.
Smith has been honored as the top wrestling coach in the NCAA twice in his career, and h was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame on Nov. 20.
"I am a believer that a positive culture wins," Smith said. "Tiger Style continues to grow, evolve and get better and I believe we will win an NCAA Championship for Mizzou. This also means I get to climb the Hearnes stairs every day for many more years."
