Mizzou hoops announces team captains

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

First-year Mizzou men's basketball coach Dennis Gates announced that Kobe Brown, Tre Gomillion, Nick Honor, and Ben Sternberg will all be the team captains for MU through the 2022-23 season. Northern Iowa transfer Noah Carter was listed as a "captain in training," as well.

Kobe Brown is the lone returning senior on the team. The only other two returners from the 2021-22 season were his brother Kaleb Brown and junior Ronnie Degray III. Through his junior season, Kobe Brown averaged more than 12 points per game along with about seven rebounds.

He started in all 33 games in that season for Mizzou. Brown was ranked in the top-10 in the SEC for rebounds per game, double-doubles, and free throw percentage.

Gomillion will be entering his first season with the Tigers, after following Gates to Columbia from Cleveland State. The guard helped lead the Vikings to a regular-season Horizon League Championship and averaged a career-best 10.5 points per game in his senior year.

Nick Honor transferred to Mizzou from Clemson after the 2021-22 season. In his senior season, he led the Tigers with 79 assists and had double-digit scoring in 12 different games.

Sternberg also comes to MU from Cleveland State where head played in five games, scoring in three of those appearances. The fifth-year guard is a walk-on on Gates' squad.
