Pujols’ two home run day projects St. Louis to series win over Milwuakee
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)
St. Louis added more separation in the race for first place in the central division, as the first-place Cardinals locked up the series win against the second-place Brewers on Sunday. The win came courtesy of big outings from two Cardinal players.
The St. Louis legend Albert Pujols knocked out two home runs, a solo shot in the second and a three-run homer in the eighth, in the win over Milwaukee. The two knocks tied him with Willie Mays for fifth all-time in career multi-home run games, now with 63. So far in his final season, Pujols tallies 30 RBI and 10 home runs.
On the bump, Cardinals ace Miles Mikolas tossed eight solid innings for the club. He had six strikeouts with just two runs allowed. It was a good bounce back win for the right-handed pitcher, as he was coming off of a rough outing against the Rockies on Tuesday.
The win put St. Louis one and a half games ahead of Milwaukee in the National League Central standings.
Up next - the Cardinals will return to action on Tuesday to host the Rockies at Busch Stadium. First pitch will be at 6:45 p.m.
