Longtime Royal Whit Merrifield traded to the Blue Jays

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Kansas City Royals traded two-time All-Star Whit Merrifield to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for infielder/outfielder Samad Taylor and pitcher Max Castillo on Tuesday.

Merrifield has spent his entire, seven-year career in Kansas City. The 33-year-old was batting .240 with six home runs and 42 RBI through the 2022 season.

The Royals announced that Taylor has been assigned to Triple A Omaha. Castillo was added to the 40-man roster and has been optioned to Omaha.

Castillo pitched about 30 innings in the majors so far in 2022 posting a 3.08 ERA.
