KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Kansas City Royals made a late night deal with the New York Yankees Wednesday trading away all-star Andrew Benintendi in exchange for three minor league pitchers.

Benintendi has dominated the outfield for KC this season becoming the club's lone all-star and batting .320 with 111 hits and 39 RBI's.

In exchange, the Royals have added right-handed pitchers Chandler Champlain and Beck Way, and left-handed pitcher T.J. Sikkema to its roster.

Sikkema was a former Mizzou Tiger and was drafted in 2019 with the 38th pick by the Yankees.

In his three seasons at Mizzou, Sikkema averaged a 2.38 ERA with an 18-11 record on the mound.

He missed all of the 2021 season due to a shoulder injury.
