XFL announces its return to St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)

Professional football will, once again, return to St. Louis in February 2023. During its town hall on Sunday afternoon, the XFL announced that the STL is included in its relaunch, along with seven other cities.

New York, Los Angeles, and Tampa were the only cities who previously had teams that were not included.

You can find the full list of cities that will host teams in 2023 below.

  • Las Vegas
  • San Antonio
  • Seattle
  • Arlington
  • Houston
  • Washington D.C.
  • Orlando
  • St. Louis

The league has not announced team names or mascots, so there is no indication on if St. Louis will keep its old "Battlehawks" franchise.

Before the league shut down in 2020 due to a shortened COVID-19 season, the Battlehawks played in the Dome at America's Center in downtown St. Louis. The team will, once again, play at the Dome.

Former NFL tight end Anthony Becht has been announced as St. Louis' new head coach. He played in the NFL for 11 seasons, which includes one season in St. Louis with the Rams.
