KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Courtesy of a strong outing from pitcher Kris Bubic and some solid defensive play, the Kansas City Royals won the first series back from the All-Star break on Sunday.

It is Kansas City's first series win against the Rays since 2017, but it didn't come without a loss. Rookie Bobby Witt Jr. left the game with tightness in his hamstring. The team said he is now classified as day-to-day.

Bubic went seven innings for KC in the win over Tampa Bay with four strikeouts and just two earned runs allowed on four hits. The win marks back-to-back deep outings for the left hander.

The Rays had the game tied until the seventh inning, but Hunter Dozier and M.J. Melendez plated runs in back-to-back innings to bring the team a win.

Up next - Kansas City will host the Angels on Monday at 7:10 p.m.
