ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)

Cardinals’ third baseman Nolan Arenado announced Saturday that he will not participate in the All-Star Game next week due to injury.

Arenado was not in the Cardinals lineup Saturday afternoon against the Reds and reports indicate he is dealing with lower-back tightness.

Arenado hopes to play Sunday in the final game before the break. This All-Star selection was his seventh.

The MLB announced that Arenado will be replaced on the National League roster by Atlanta’s Austin Riley.

Three Cardinals are still heading to LA for Tuesday's All-Star Game in Paul Goldschmidt, Albert Pujols and Ryan Helsley. Pujols will also participate in his fifth and final Home Run Derby on Monday.
