New era begins for Rock Bridge football

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A new era has begun at Rock Bridge after head football coach Matt Perkins took over the Bruins in February.

Perkins has spent the past three seasons at West Plains where he led the Zizzers to a 29-6 record during his time.

He joins the Bruins who were just 4-6 this past season and looks to implement his scheme of play and winning mentality into his new team.

"Sometimes you step away from your comfort zone and grow and I think I needed that professionally," Perkins said. "They really rolled out the red carpet for me here and made me feel like I was at home immediately."

Perkins' team will be led by junior QB, Sam Kaiser, but as he begins to dig into his new opponents, he is relying on the senior class to lead the way.

"My first experience here, I came in and they wanted to have a team dinner with me. We went to Buffalo Wild Wings and they started talking about how important it is to that the camaraderie still exists with them their senior year," Perkins said.

Rock Bridge will kick off their season on Aug. 26 on the road at Park Hill South at 7 p.m.
