Cardinals win in extras to avoid the sweep in Atlanta

ST. LOUIZ, Mo. (KMIZ)

The St. Louis Cardinals pulled out a 3-2 win in extra innings Thursday night to avoid a series sweep in Atlanta.

The game started as a pitcher's duel with Matthew Liberatore pitching the first four innings allowing just three hits and Jordan Hicks coming in for the next two allowing one.

The Cardinals bats struck first in the seventh with an RBI sacrifice fly from Albert Pujols.

Atlanta tied things up at one and the game went into extra innings. Both teams scored a run in the 10th but the Cardinals got the advantage in the 11th with another RBI sac fly, this one from Dylan Carlson.

With the win, St. Louis still falls in the series 3-1.

Up next - The Cardinals will return home Friday to take on the Phillies at 7:15 p.m.
