KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Kansas City Royals traded first baseman Carlos Santana to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for two right handed pitchers on Monday.

Santana has played in 52 games for the Royals through the first part of the season. The 36-year-old batted .357 with two home runs and 11 RBI in the month of June.

In return for Santana, Kansas City picked up both Wyatt Mills and William Fleming from the Mariners. Mills already has been added to the 40-man roster and will be optioned down to Triple A Omaha. Fleming was assigned to the Quad Cities, High A.

The Santana trade paved the way for a new first baseman at Kauffman Stadium. Kansas City called up top prospect Vinnie Pasquantino from Triple A. The first baseman had a .948 on base percentage with 18 home runs and 16 doubles in Omaha.

Pasquantino made the trip to KC for the Royals' game against the Rangers on Monday night.
