Mizzou softball downs Auburn in first round of SEC Tournament

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (KMIZ)

The No. 22 Mizzou softball team topped No. 20 Auburn, 1-0, in a defensive battle in the first round of the SEC Tournament.

The Tigers did not get on the board until the fourth inning courtesy of some stout defense from both teams. Jenna Laird broke the silence at the plate with a shot to the left field corner to make it 1-0 MU.

Mizzou pitcher Jordan Weber tossed for seven innings with eight strikeouts and no runs allowed.

Up next - the seven-seeded Tigers will do battle with second-seeded Alabama on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. The two teams just met days ago when the Crimson Tide took the series over Mizzou in Sunday's rubber match with a controversial home run.
