Cardinals miss out on sweep against the Reds

CINCINNATI, Ohio. (KMIZ)

The St. Louis Cardinals failed to complete the sweep over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday afternoon, falling 4-1 in the series finale.

Adam Wainwright continued a history of tough outings at Great American Ball Park, throwing just three strikeouts and allowing four earned runs over five innings. On the flip side, Cincinnati's Nick Lodolo pitched lights out for the Reds. He recorded seven strikeouts and allowed just one run over about five innings.

The Cardinals recorded seven hits in the loss, but couldn't capitalize on scoring opportunities.

Up next - St. Louis will return to Busch Stadium on Monday to host the New York Mets, where the birds will face Mizzou alum Max Scherzer.
