Dennis Gates’ former player at Cleveland State will now be joining him in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Men's basketball coach Dennis Gates started off the week bringing in a familiar face to join him at Mizzou.

Senior Tre Gomillion played under Gates during his time at Cleveland State and announced Monday that he will be following him to Columbia.

The 6'4" guard has played the past three seasons at Cleveland State where he averaged 10.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists last season.

When asked why Mizzou, this is what Gomillion had to say, "You look at the tradition of the basketball program, you look at the leader ship with the president and the AD. And you look at the conference and level of play, those are all reasons why Mizzou."

Gomillion said Coach Gates is a very detailed, demanding, and strategic coach who will get players better every time they step on the court.

"He gives us freedom to play off instinct and skill, while finding the next level we thought we never had. He is great at Xs and Os out of timeouts, he gets the ball to the right person at the right time. Off the court it is a lifelong relationship that I could talk about all day if I had the time," Gomillion said.

With this addition, Mizzou currently has two more roster spots available.

The Tigers leading scorer in SEC play this past season Javon Pickett announced Monday that he will be using his last year of eligibility at St. Louis University.
