No. 25 Mizzou softball avoids a sweep; wins at Mississippi State
STARKVILLE, Miss. (KMIZ)
No. 25 Mizzou softball avoided getting swept by Mississippi State with an 8-5 win in extra innings on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers are now 24-15 overall and 4-7 in SEC action.
Head coach Larissa Anderson's group led 5-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Bulldogs managed to tie it up. Jordan Weber came in in relief for Megan Schumacher and stranded bases loaded.
In the eighth inning, catcher Gabi Deters put the Tigers up once again with a go-ahead two run shot. Sophomore Jenna Laird followed that up with an inside the park home run to put Mizzou up by three.
Tough day in the circle for MU, as both starter Laurin Krings and Megan Schumacher ended up getting pulled. Krings had two strikeouts and let up three earned runs over three innings.
Up next - the Tigers will get some time off before the Georgia Bulldogs come to Columbia. First pitch in that three-game series is on Thursday at 5 p.m.
