Royals get Opening Day win over Cleveland Guardians

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Kansas City Royals capped off a special Opening Day at Kauffman Stadium with 3-1 win over the newly named Cleveland Guardians.

The day marked not only the first win of the season, but the first-career start for the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball Bobby Witt Jr. The third baseman became the youngest Royal to make a major league debut at the age of 21. Witt Jr. finished his first Opening Day with a clutch hit to propel Kansas City to its first victory of the year.

New talent was followed up by old talent, as Zack Greinke made his first start at Kauffman Stadium since 2010. He threw one strikeout and allowed just one run over the course of about five innings.

Up next - Kansas City will continue its series with the Guardians on Saturday. First pitch is at 3:10 p.m. at Kauffman Stadium.
