Kimberly Wert named SEC Player of the Week

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

MU softball's Kimberly Wert earned SEC Player of the Week honors on Tuesday, following a record-breaking weekend at the Mizzou Softball Stadium.

The fifth-year senior batted .538 over the week courtesy of a double, home run, and four RBI. Wert really shined the the Tigers' sweep over South Carolina. She hit a go-ahead run in the first three innings of each contest and also hit a home run in the first game of the series, which set a new program all-time home run record with 48 in her career.

The record, which previously belonged to Jen Bruck, had stood for 13 seasons. With that home run, Wert also moved into ninth place for Mizzou's all-time RBI leaders, finishing the week with 141 career-RBIs.

Wert joins Casidy Chaumont and Kara Daly in Tigers to earn SEC weekly honors so far this season.
