Helias sends basketball teams off to Final Four

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Helias Crusaders sent two teams off to the state tournament in Springfield with a pep on Wednesday afternoon, as both the girls and boys basketball teams will compete for a state title.

Both teams will be looking for the first state championship in Crusader basketball history. The boys came close in 2016, but finished in third place in Class 4. Meanwhile, the girls are competing in their first final four since 1995, when Helias took second place in Class 3.

Head coach Garrett Wiggans and the girls squad will do battle with Benton at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Hammons Student Center on Missouri State's campus. Later that same day, boys coach Joe Rothweiler and his team will play Springfield Catholic in the Class 5 semifinal on Friday at JQH Arena.

We will have highlights and reaction to all of Mid-Missouri's final four matchups on ABC17 News on Friday and Saturday night.
