Mizzou running back earns SEC Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou running back Tyler Badie is the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He's the first MU student-athlete to ever win this award.

Badie is currently pursuing a master's degree in athletic administration and positive coaching. He already earned his bachelor's degree in sports management, finishing with a 3.83 GPA.

The senior was also recently named to the SEC community service team. Badie has volunteered more than 150 hours during his time at MU.

On the field - Badie's numbers speak for themselves. The SEC's leading rusher broke MU's single-season rushing record, totaling 1,604 yards during the regular season.

Badie is one of three finalists for the Doak Walker Award, which is given annually to the nation's top running back.

The senior has already committed to playing in the Tigers bowl game. MU will found out its postseason destination on Sunday.
