Drinkwitz believes MU has hit vaccination threshold

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Eli Drinkwitz said he believes that the Mizzou football has hit the Southeastern Conference's 85 percent vaccination threshold, as the team is ten days away from the start of the season.

“We’ve got to be close to 85 if not over. I know the staff’s at 98%. Combine that with our players and we’re over," Drinkwitz said in a press conference on Wednesday evening.

Prior to the start of the 2021 season, the SEC designated a threshold for all members. If a program meets that vaccination rate, then it will not have to go through the typical COVID-19 protocols that season. Namely, the team will not go through weekly testing and contact tracing for positive cases.

As of Wednesday, MU is still expecting Faurot Field to operate at full capacity through the 2021 season and Drinkwitz says he hopes that fans can pack the stands safely.

"I'm expecting that they show up," he said. "Expecting that there's a great turnout and that there's excitement. I know it's on Twitter, but we all know Twitter is not real, so we've got to get fans in the stands. We got to get students in the student section."
