Battle football coach steps down

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Battle Spartans will be looking for a new head football coach just about 40 days away from the start of the 2021-2022 season, after Atiyyah Ellison resigned on Monday.

Battle Athletics confirmed to ABC17 that Ellison is moving on from the program to pursue another opportunity. He took the helm of the Spartans back in 2019, after serving as an assistant coach. The former Mizzou and NFL player leaves Battle High School as the reigning Class 5, District 4 champion.

Battle officials said they will begin interview candidates as soon as possible to, "continue the Battle football tradition."
