Southern Boone wrestling makes program history

ASHLAND, Mo. (KMIZ)

Southern Boone will send a record number of wrestlers to the state championships next week.

The Eagles will send five boys and one girl to compete in Independence, Mo. Addy Pasley is the first Southern Boone female wrestler to ever qualify for state.

"It would have been awesome if all the girls would've made it this year, but it was super cool," Pasley said.

Pasley pinned her opponent at sectionals to punch her ticket to state.

"Winning that match was probably one of the best moments I've ever had because the celebration was like crazy," Pasley said. "You could hear everybody, and my dad gave me a big hug, and so did coach. It was awesome."

On the boys side - team captains Kade Scheer and Hunter Jennings are among the five headed to state. Both attributed the team's recent success to head coach Everett Bradley.

"We're improving day by day," Jennings said. "First, we're sending maybe a school record of three wrestlers to state. Now, we're sending five. Maybe next year we'll send six, seven, eight, nine, maybe a full roster soon. Coach Bradley is doing a great job with this program."

Coach Bradley said his wrestlers deserve all of the credit.

"I told them this week - I know it's not easy wresting for me," Coach Bradley said. "I know it's not easy wrestling for this staff, but you're doing the right thing, and if you keep doing the right things and keep working hard, good things are going to come your way."
