MSHSAA moves state wrestling to Independence

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The MSHSAA state wrestling championships will not be held at Mizzou Arena in 2021.

MSHSAA spokesperson Jason West said the last time state wrestling wasn't held in Columbia was back in 1974. It was held that year at UCM and Forest Park Community College in STL.

"Due to questions and uncertainty of venue/facility availability relative to COVID-19, the 2021 wrestling championships will be held at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, Mo," West said in a release.

The state wrestling championships will be held March 9-13.

MSHSAA also said it will allow 12 qualifiers per weight class. It has also added a sectionals round in the postseason.
