Battle looks to continue successful history

COLUMBIA, Mo (KMIZ)

The Battle Spartans are just two games away from bringing a state title back to Columbia.

The last time the Spartans came away with a state championship was back in 2014, when Justin Conyers was head coach.

Despite a stranger 2020 season, current head coach Atiyyah Ellison said he thinks his squad has the talent to make it to that game once again.

"I think mentally, we are fine. You can't judge and see what's going to happen in the future, but if we stay healthy I see us playing that last game," he said.

Battle will host Fort Zumwalt North for the second time this season.

The schools' first meeting was a high-scoring affair, with more than 100 points between both teams.

Ellison's squad took the 60-43 win in week of the season, however, he said this time around will be different.

"I think we shaped some things up in the secondary and we played good up front, so I don't think it's going to be the same kind of game that it was week one," he said.
