Mizzou vs. Georgia postponed due to COVID-19

COLUMBIA, Mo (KMIZ)

Georgia will not be making the trip to Columbia on Saturday due to COVID-19 concerns within Mizzou's program.

The team said the postponement is due to a mixture of positive tests and contact tracing within one, specific position group.

On Wednesday morning, Eli Drinkwitz said his team is below the required threshold of available players at one position.

"The plan is to do everything possible to play at South Carolina, you know, that will be our goal and intention. But, to try to answer, you know, I believe that would be 10 days out from right now, I think with this pandemic is just too far of an unknown," he said. "But we will do everything in our power to play and we should have guys back in time to play."

Since the Tigers already have one game tentatively rescheduled for December 12, the team said it will need to evaluate when the matchup with Georgia could happen.

The SEC's calendar would allow for a rescheduled game to fall on December 19.

Weeks ago, Vanderbilt had to postpone it's matchup with Mizzou due to COVID-19. MU Athletics said fans should hold on to their tickets for both postponed games.

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said this week is a week unlike any other the conference has seen.

"I've repeatedly said, really since last March, that the circumstances around the virus will guide our decisions. The reality is that it is the virus that, in some circumstances, determines our direction," he said.
