Mizzou football prepares for No. 12 Georgia as SEC postpones more games
The Mizzou football team will host No. 12 Georgia on Saturday at 11 a.m. It's the Tigers fifth game against a ranked opponent this season.
You can watch head coach Eli Drinkwitz's full news conference ahead of the matchup in the video player above.
Drinkwitz said one member of the team tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, and it has caused "significant" contact tracing in one position group. Drinkwitz would not say which position group is affected. He also would not say how many players would be out on Saturday. With that said - he did say MU was in a similar situation for the LSU game a few weeks ago.
"I think we went four straight weeks without a single positive, and now we had one, and we just got some significant contact tracing just from the nature of that positive," Drinkwitz said in a Zoom news conference. "Our number one priority is the health and safety of our players and our team, and the number one thing we know about this virus is its highly contagious. We're trying to be very smart about wrapping our arms around it and making sure that there's not a reason to have to pause."
Meanwhile, the SEC postponed two more games on Tuesday. Here's the updated list of conference games that will not be played on Saturday due to COVID-19.
- Alabama at LSU
- Texas A&M at Tennessee
- Auburn at Mississippi State
The Tigers are coming off their second bye week of the season. MU is 2-3 on the season with wins over LSU and Kentucky and losses to Alabama, Tennessee and Florida.
Georgia is 4-2 on the season. The Bulldogs lost this past weekend to Florida, 44-28.
