Tolton football: ‘We can achieve everything and we can achieve nothing’
COLUMBIA, Mo (KMIZ)
In a year full of distractions, the Tolton football team isn't having any of it.
"We don't worry about the elements that we can't control. We worry about the elements that we can," said Michael Egnew, Tolton's football coach.
One element the Trailblazers said they are hoping to control on week one, is the Hallsville Indians.
"They do a really good job at running the football," Egnew said. "Honestly, that's what they do well. We have to be ready to stop the run."
Egnew is no stranger to the Hallsville. Last season, the two squads met twice.
The first time: Hallsville won the first game of the season.
The second time: The Indians defeated Tolton to progress further into the playoffs.
"What we do every, single day is how do we prepare for what they did to us last year and what they might do to us this year," Egnew said.
He said while they are taking COVID-19 seriously, he does want to provide an environment where they can prepare themselves.
“I try to make it as normal as we can out here. We follow the guidelines, but you know, we’re practicing football and football practice can’t change too much or it’ll change the game," he said.
Egnew added that he is confident there is no ceiling for his team this year.
"We can achieve everything and we can achieve nothing," he said. "It all depends on how hard we are willing to work and how well we prepare. I think they're prepared."
