Mizzou WBB escapes with season opener win over Western Illinois

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou women's basketball team beat Western Illinois 97-89 in overtime on Tuesday night.

Amber Smith led the Tigers with 27 points, 15 rebounds and four assists. Fellow senior Jordan Chavis had 18 points and eight assists.

The Tigers two talented freshman struggled in their MU debut. Aijha Blackwell and Hayley Frank combined for ten points and nine fouls.

Two former mid-Missouri stars played well for the Fighting Leathernecks. Former Hickman standout Danni Nichols had 14 points and six rebounds. Meanwhile, former California standout Elizabeth Lutz had six points and two rebounds

Up next - Mizzou will host Nebraska on Sunday at 2 p.m.
