Blair Murphy announces Columbia mayoral bid
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Blair Murphy announced his intent to run for Columbia mayor in a Thursday afternoon press release.
Murphy is the third person to throw their hat into the April mayoral race. Mayor Barbara Buffaloe announced her reelection bid last month and Tanya Heath announced her intent to run for mayor.
Murphy and his wife Melissa own Johnston Paint and Decorating and he is a CrimeStoppers board member, the release says. His campaign plans to focus on crime prevention, public safety, infrastructure and compensation and pension plans for police and firefighters, the release says.
The release also cites his work with area nonprofits such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Daniel Boone Little League, the Sophie Cunningham Classic and the Norm Stewart Classic.
Election packets for potential candidates can be picked up at the City Clerk’s Office. The packet includes the petition form and other documents that will need to be completed as part of the filing process, according to the city’s website.
The Ward 3 and Ward 4 council seats will also be up-for-grabs in the April election.
