Schaefer concedes Third Congressional District Republican nomination to Onder
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Kurt Schaefer felt good going into Election Night.
The good feeling wouldn't last.
Schaefer took to X to thank his supporters and congratulate Dr. Bob Onder, his opponent in the Republican primary for the Third Congressional District. at around 10:35 p.m. Tuesday.
"I'm feeling great," Schaefer said in at interview around 6:30 pm Tuesday night. "We can't wait for the polls to close and the returns to start coming in. And we're going to watch and see what happens, but we're very confident."
Schaefer is a Boone County Republican who formerly represented the area in the Missouri Senate.
He centered his campaign around several key policies: The southern border, cutting wasteful spending, protecting the Second Amendment, and keeping Missouri's anti-abortion policies.
Schaefer said he cast his vote Tuesday morning at Bethel Church around 9 a.m. Along with casting his ballot, Schaefer and his team gave their final push of the campaign by making phone calls to voters.
Turns out that the former state senator's last-minute campaigning did not help swing voters in his direction. , the Associated Press called the win for Bob Onder.

Schaefer did not respond to inquiries from ABC 17 News after his concession.
