Green Party presidential candidate visits Columbia day after arrest at protest
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A third party presidential candidate visited Columbia Sunday, the day after being arrested for her participation in protests in St. Louis.
Dr. Jill Stein is running for president of the United States as a Green Party candidate. She spoke with voters Sunday afternoon at the Boone County Government Center.
The Green Party is not an officially recognized party in Missouri. Stein said the party is collecting signatures to officially get on the ballot in Missouri; they currently have about 8,000.
"The American people are kind of fed up with two parties that have been throwing them under the bus," Stein said. "And usually people are not voting for a candidate they like. They're voting against the candidate they dislike the most. and democracy doesn't work that way."
Stein was arrested Saturday for allegedly assaulting a police officer during a protest at Washington University in St. Louis against the university's ties to Boeing.
Stein supporter Saquib Ahmed said he is proud to see someone fighting for Muslims in Missouri.
"We are fighting for in this city against the occupation and the repression of the Palestinians, as well as our own students, it feels like it was my duty to support her point of view by coming here," Ahmed said.
