COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Jack Truman has announced his candidacy as the Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress in Missouri's 4th Congressional District.

“It's time for a change”, Truman said in a press release. “While it's time for a change, at the same time, we need to get back to tradition. It's time to get back to the way things used to be while adapting to the changes in our time. It's going to take a political outsider, a regular person who has nothing to do with politics, to go to Washington and shake up this system."

Truman is a college professor, Army veteran, and small business owner, he believes his lifetime of experiences can help represent the changes needed coming from his district.

“The Democratic party is not the party any longer of Kennedy and Truman”, says Truman in a release. “I don't know what's happened to this party. The times have changed. Both parties need to work together to make things happen and get things done. A liberal is a person who is open-minded to change. It's important to have an open mind to get things done. Ike Skelton represented our district for over 30 years before it changed over to a Republican district. We need to get back to having a district where a Democrat can best serve the needs of our locals."

It has also been announced that Truman will be running a virtual campaign and that it will be self-funded.

“I will not be soliciting donations for this campaign. If people want to contribute, they are welcome to. However, people in this district should not sacrifice contributions and donations in these times of inflation, where people are suffering from rising gas prices, rising food prices, baby formula shortages, and many other challenges. Keep your money if you have to. This campaign is not about the money. It's about servicing the people. That's the most important thing," said Truman in a release.

Truman is the only Democrat to announce his candidacy for the 4th congressional district seat.

On the Republican side, Mark Alford, Rick Brattin, Kalena Bruce, Taylor Burks, Jim Campbell, William Irwin and Kyle LaBrue are running.

Randy Langkraehr is running as a Libertarian.
