JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.
The Missouri House has approved a high-profile measure to ban local enforcement of federal gun laws with one hour to go in the legislative session.
Senators passed the gun bill 22-10 on Thursday. The House voted 111-42 to approve the bill Friday at about 5 p.m. The session ends at 6 p.m. The House also passed an emergency clause to make the law take effect immediately if the governor signs it by a vote of 110-43.
The measure known as the Second Amendment Preservation Act would penalize local police agencies if their officers enforce federal gun laws. Republican backers say they're motivated by the possibility of new federal gun restrictions under Democratic President Joe Biden and the Democratic-led U.S. House.
