President Donald Trump announced his sweeping package of tariffs on products from dozens of countries on Wednesday, as promised.

Opinions vary on the tariffs. Critics say they're going to drive the world into an economic depression. Supporters -- and their biggest proponent, Trump -- argue that tariffs will help bring back American manufacturing strength.

One thing they don't differ on is that there will be economic disruption and pain. Even the president himself has warned of a transition period. Meanwhile, Republican senators are telling people to brace for a brief period of "economic pain" when the tariffs begin.
